Moly

By way of intermezzo, I hereby present a translated poem by Thom Gunn instead of Philip Larkin. I translated this poem into Dutch for a Facebook competition and decided to make life even more difficult for myself with this French translation. Some of my choices here coincide with the choices I made for the Dutch version. In some other cases I was happy to be able to stay closer to the original (the pig still has eyelashes here ;-)) or introduce some nice French terms with an additional connotation ("cochon" and "cochonnerie" represent certain moral values too). I am pleased with the result where it concerns metre and rhyme. I managed to stick to the iambic pentameter and the paired rhyme scheme, with only one half rhyme (perroquet-habité), like in the original English version, and a possible second such case (morfal-spéciale). For the rest, I am open to any suggestion to improve this version. To read the original, click on the link below.

Moly

Cauchemar bestial. Ébrouement. Lève-toi!
Debout.

Seulement mes yeux cillés me rendent humain.
Mes dents lacèrent. Regarde mon grand groin.

Menez-moi, dieux, à moly, l'herbe magique.

(Hopefully even better now thanks to the kind suggestions by Aurore Van De Winkel)
